The delicate skin around the eye is susceptible to a host of issues as it is the thinnest skin on the body. As we age, it’s one of the first areas to show lines and unfortunately when we’re tired, it’s the area that gives us away with dark circles. Luckily a brightening eye cream can help to reduce the appearance of dark circles while soothing tired, puffy eyes. A good eye cream will also reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and help prep all skin types for makeup. Read on to discover your perfect eye cream.
What causes dark circles?
Dark circles are often down to genetics, but they are exacerbated by dehydration, excessive salt, allergies, a lack of sleep and stress. Forgetting to remove makeup at night can also contribute. Changing up your lifestyle to include eight hours sleep, drinking more water and eating a healthy diet with less salt will make a difference to dark circles, as will a good, consistent skincare regime that includes an eye cream.
How to use eye cream
Introduce an eye cream into your skincare routine and apply every morning and evening after cleansing, toning and applying a serum, but before your moisturiser. Use a green pea-sized amount of product and apply with your ring finger (your index finger will apply too much pressure). For thicker formulas, ensure that you warm the product up between your ring fingertips so that it's easier to apply. Avoid dragging the skin, instead gently tap the cream from the inner corner outwards along the orbital bone (where the dark circles are), smooth outwards at the corner of the eye to ensure fine lines are targeted and then take it gently up and over the brow bone.
