Many more of us are working from home and while it offers plenty of benefits (no commute and only wearing loungewear spring to mind), our screen time is on the up. If you’re not on a Zoom call or scrolling social media, it’s likely you’re bingeing a box set. Excessive screen time though can cause insomnia, affect your mood and even damage your eyes and by extension, impact the skin around them. Here’s why you should switch off from time to time…
Is too much screen time affecting your health?
As we’ve spent more time indoors recently, we’ve spent more time on our laptops and mobile phones. While they’ve been essential in remote work and allowing us to keep in contact with our families and colleagues, staring at screens for hours on end has also been linked to tired eyes, blurry vision, eye strain headaches and dry eyes – the latter because we don’t blink as often when looking at digital screens.

Is a digital detox the only solution?
While we expect your boss might have an issue with a complete laptop ban, cutting down on your social media scrolling and TV time in favour of getting outdoors gives straining eyes a break to experience something else and focus on different distances.
